Despite the potential of the city and the region it is less developed
and it constitutes a secondary activity besides the industry and
the fish.
The craftsman’s sector considered as the most important
activity of the city is characterised by its quality and diversity
with the dominance of the pottery, which is the most important
industry of this sector. In the ceramic and in the pottery it
appeared the specific character of the Moroccan world: the attachment
to the national and authentic culture. The craftsman’s trade
of Safi knew a concrete development in time.
Consequently, it plays a very important role concerning the employment
and it represents a currency source for the economy. Indeed, this
sector occupy 30% of the active work hand in Morocco. This importance
is manifested in the mass of the credits accorded to the craftsmen,
in the volume of the investments and of the exports of craftsman’s
products and in the number of the co-operatives in this sector.
It is traduced also by the creation in Safi of a national museum
of pottery and ceramic.
