Rabat is the administrative and politic capital of the kingdom from the establishment of the protectorate in 1912.
The king Mohammed V, the father of Morocco’s independence of 1956 kept the capital chosen by the field marshal Lyautey, the first general resident of the Protectorate. The tourists can take a walk on the Mechouar, principal path of the Royal Palace in Rabat.

The new king Mohammed VI who succeed to the famous Hassan the 2nd in July prefere to come back every evening in his family residence.

Salé: adjacent city. There are 1,5 million inhabitants who live in the agglomeration Rabat-Salé

Rabat have been an imperial city for less than a century but it possess certain interest places for the tourists. The Casbah, the Tour Hassan or the unachieved mosque, the Mausoleum Mohammed V, the archaeological Museum and the necropolis of Chellah. Unfortunately, the tour included only the visit of the unachieved mosque, the mausoleum Mohammed V, built nearby and a tour on the Cornish sea border destroyed by the anarchic construction of tourist complexes. The mausoleum Mohammed V was built in 1969 by Hassan the 2nd to immortalise the memory of the king who opposed to the french during the protectorate and who died in a surgery operation in 1961.
There is a big coffin in white onyx to be seen inside, that of Hassan the 2nd, was put recently. The inside and outside decoration is loyal to the Hispanic style.

The tour Hassan the 2nd had to be much more high as a part of the biggest mosque in Morocco, at the moment when the powerful king Yacoub el Mansour (the victorious) of the 12th century of its kingdom also Hassan means kindness in Arabic, so you have to see only a coincidence with the king’s name who preceded M6 as it was called with affection by the Moroccans.

After have built the Giralda of Seville and the Kountoubia of Marrakech, the almohad king wanted to build the biggest mosque in a town designed to be the future capital. Unfortunately, he died before achieving its work. The mosque is in the same state as it was in the 12th century.
The earthquake of Lisbon deteriorated the site in 1755.

On the other side the paving was added later. The unachieved work resemble actually to the columns of Buren, (controversy work from the garden of Royal Palace in Paris from 1986).
Maybe the artist took his inspiration on the occasion of a voyage in Morocco?
