VOLUBILIS:
The beauty of the site and the amplitude of the vestiges are admired by the lovers of the roman period. A forum, a triumph arc, a tribunal, many houses the terms are visible in the ruins of the ancient city. You can admire particular many open mosaics in a very-well state. Attention to those as us chose Morocco for the August: there is less shadow on the site. There is no tree to provide you. Only the tribunal and the Triumph Arc and a few walls can protect you against the sun.
The roman ruins of Volubilis lay on 40 ha are the best preserved in all the Moroccan territory. If you are in Meknes, Volubilis is an ideal trip for a day.

History :
Volubilis is a city edified by the Romans in the year 40 in order to control the north – African region, that was populated by the Greeks, Berbers,, Jewels and Cartage traders. In the 2nd and 3rd century this century began to develop really grace at the cultures of cereals.

The triumph arc edified in front of the main path in 217, in the honour of the roman emperor Caracalla was restored in 1962.

In front the house of Ephebe shelters an outstanding mosaic of Bacchus on his char. The Capitol is in front of the Basilica, the two were built in 217 on a promontory that dominates the dry plain. The best moment in the day to visit these ruins is the day’s fall when the of the monuments retire ... and the cars with the tourists show up.


The mosaics :
The Volubilis mosaics are the particularity of the site.
You will admire in a rich trader’s house the myth of Orphe and the char of Amphitrite. If there are many monuments broken to recapture the marble, that was subsequently used to build the palaces of Meknes, the mosaics were let as they were.
