It is important to describe an exclusive page for the Spanish Maur architecture as it can be found in all the monuments and the rich Arabian residences. As in Morocco it is imperative for the groups of 20 persons to pay a local guide when entering in each town.

Firstly you have to know that all the Berber residences or Arabian are turned to inside opposite to our occidental that open the most of them to exterior. In the cities it is not recommended to show up the richness to exterior. The women are also a part of the interior richness and they are an object of seduction that hide the Islamic Religion. In this purpose the Arabian residences doesn’t have windows to the outside but to the inside yard, that reveal the Roman character. Indeed the patio comprise generally a basin (ablution basin in the medersas or in the mosques) that gather the rain water.

The insides of the rich Arabian residences and of the religious establishments are very decorated: there is no cm abandoned. In the bottom of the walls the zelliges (ground) coloured. At the height columns and walls in sculpted stucco. The guide ask ussualy: Do you know in what is constituted this stucco? And the tourists will know to answer at the end of the week that is made in egg white. The yellow must be given to the Venetian as they have their venetian stucco.

PMaybe the Arabic and the Italian communities change the methods: it’s up to you to find out. The walls finish with cedar wood that it is found in the forests of the Atlas.

Sometimes the visited piece may be even more rich and has marble columns. The Marble is usually imported from Italy, as it is very rare and expensive. And certain ceilings are decorated by the craftsmen from Fes, the capital of the craftsman’s trade.

The Arabian motives that we find in the global architecture, on the mosaics, on the zelligs and on the stucco and cedar sculptures, geometric motives. The human representations aren’t a part of the musulman Art.
