In the south of the country, near the algerian frontier, there is the more vaste area of stones and sand in the interior of Morocco. Certain sand dunes can reach 200 m height. Even if the desert is not the most inviting territory, due to the warm, it is inhabited. On this immense dry area, the lake Srji allows the survval of the Saharan oasis Merzougha.

DMore, the desert is frequented by the nomade populations called ‘the blue people’ that organise markets for the camels every saturday, in the missle of the stone surfaces of hte desert or hamada. At south of Zagora, the manuscript coranic library of Mohamed ibn Nasir, died in 1764 is situated inside of an religious establishment or zaouïta. More at south, at Goulimine, every saturday it takes place a market where the nomad societies such as Tekna or the Reguibat, change goats, sheeps and dromedaries. Their are called the blue people due to their cloths. It is possible to see at Smara the buildings in stone that were already famous coranoc centres. It seems that this establishment comprised more than 500 preciouss volumes.

The Morocco’s desert offers a large variety: there is the vast stone plain that lays from the Atlas to the Atlantic Ocean at South of agadir. There are here jackals and dromadaries, and in the sands of Sahara we can find the snakes and the scorpions. In the green oasis at north there is also a human and animal life very active. It’s up to you.
